HOT CHOCOLATE AND BOOK TALKS
ALESIA & ANDREEA
"The Wrath and the Dawn" is the debut novel from Renée Ahdieh and it is
supposed to be a retailing of "Arabian Night". Unfortunately, I have not read the
latter so I can't say if I saw the similarities or not. However, it does not make it
less of an incredible book. It is set in an Indian-like country called Khorosan,
ruled by a monster, Khalid, a serial killer that murdered his wives at dawn with
a silk rope.
The action starts when Shahrzad decides to marry khalid to avenge her best
friend Shiva, one of his dead wives.
I am not surprised to say that I have completly fallen in love with Khalid. I
know, it sounds awful, that I am in love with a murderer, but once you read the
book, you will understand. But the way Renée created Shahrzad is amazing. She is such a strong, independed, dare I say, bad-ass, snarky and sarcastic. It is no surprise that she lives longer than any of khalid's past wifes.
The atmosphere is so exotic, that I can not wait until I get my hands on the next book. The life presented within the pages seems so unique and so well described with an index of special terms at the end. Unfortunately, I didn't discover it until the very end.
By the way, I don't think I have ever mentioned my love for bows and arrows. Because Shahrzad sure as hell can shoot an arrow and so can Khalid.
And just to show how much I enjoyed the book, I sometimes found myself screaming at some characters.
Renée' s writting is a real stand out, it sucks you into the book and never lets you go. I couldn't sleep until I finished the book, and when I did, I knew it is one of the best.
All in all, I really think you should go ahead and pick this book up. It is surely a unique read and a beautiful one at that.
I hope you guys find "The Wrath and the Dawn" as amazing as I did. And if you have read it, let me know what you thought of it.
